Japan: contract, limitation and data handover

Japan is a civil-law jurisdiction; contract is governed by the Civil Code (Minpō), substantially reformed in 2020, under which the general limitation period for commercial claims is broadly five years from when the creditor becomes aware it can exercise the right (with a ten-year long-stop), subject always to the SAP agreement and its governing-law clause.
